Delhi : Veteran Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir will be participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2027 as a foreign player, not a domestic player. This is due to a change in his citizenship, which has created problems for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and his franchise, the Pindies.
Changed status after becoming British citizenship
34-year-old Mohammad Amir recently acquired British citizenship. He confirmed this on Wisden’s “The Scoop Accented” podcast, explaining that now having a British passport has changed his legal status in franchise leagues. Since he is no longer a legal citizen of Pakistan, he will be registered as an overseas player under PSL rules.
According to the rules of PSL, each team can have 5 to 7 foreign players in its squad, while a maximum of 4 foreign players can be included in the playing eleven.
The Pindies face a major challenge
Aamir is currently part of the Pindiz team. He was acquired by the franchise for 54 million Pakistani rupees as a domestic fast bowler in the PSL 2026 auction. He was signed to a two-year contract (2026 and 2027).
Now, Aamir’s appointment as an overseas player poses a significant question for his franchise. The PCB will have to decide whether his current contract can be converted to an overseas slot, a new contract will be signed, or he will be released and included in the next draft. The board has not yet made an official decision on this matter.
