Sorento Hybrid SUV: The demand for hybrid technology in the Indian car market is steadily rising, and Kia is now poised to make a significant leap in this race. Following the launch of the Syros EV, the company’s next major move will be the Sorento Hybrid SUV. This is not merely a new SUV; it will also be Kia’s first ‘strong hybrid’ vehicle in India—a launch that has been highly anticipated for quite some time. Let’s delve into the details. Kia has already opened official bookings for the Sorento Hybrid, with the market launch scheduled for September 4, 2026. Positioned as the company’s flagship SUV, it will directly challenge popular models such as the Toyota Fortuner and the Skoda Kodiaq.

Design

In terms of design, the new Kia Sorento exudes the aura of a premium SUV at first glance. Its tall and wide stance commands a strong road presence. At the front, Kia’s signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, vertically stacked LED headlights, and 7-shaped LED DRLs give it a bold, powerful look.

Additionally, the new lower air dam and ‘ice-cube’ style fog lamps are likely to become distinctive design elements. The side profile—featuring a large glass area, 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and a shark-fin antenna—further enhances its premium appeal.

The standout feature of the Kia Sorento will be its strong hybrid engine. While it was initially speculated that the company would introduce a new 1.5-litre hybrid engine, recent information suggests it will instead use the same 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine already on the market.

This engine will be paired with a strong hybrid system; in the UK model, it delivers 235bhp of power and 380Nm of torque, supported by a 1.49kWh battery pack. It will come with an automatic transmission as standard, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable driving experience.

Diesel Variant

Apart from the hybrid model, Kia might also launch a diesel version of the Sorento in the future. It is expected to feature the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine found in the Carnival. This engine produces approximately 202bhp and 440Nm of torque. Consequently, the Sorento could emerge as a strong option for those who prefer diesel SUVs for long-distance driving.
