NEET UG News: Controversy has once again arisen regarding the NEET UG exam. Six candidates who appeared for the exam have approached the Supreme Court, alleging discrepancies in their marksheets. The students state that the answers they marked on their OMR sheets during the exam do not match the scanned copies released by the NTA. They have sought an urgent hearing on the matter before the counseling process begins. The case was presented on Tuesday before a bench led by Justice Surya Kant. During the proceedings, the court agreed to list the matter for a hearing.

The six petitioners claim to have secured between 600 and 650+ marks in the NEET UG exam. However, the scanned copies of the OMR sheets uploaded by the NTA do not show the same answers they had marked during the examination. The students argue that this discrepancy could directly impact their final scores and their prospects of securing admission to medical colleges.

Complaint lodged with NTA, but no response received

The students' counsel informed the Supreme Court that the candidates had emailed the NTA and even visited the agency's office regarding the issue but received no resolution. They stated that despite lodging complaints, their problem remained unresolved, compelling them to approach the court.

What did the Supreme Court say?

During the hearing, the lawyer representing the students requested an urgent hearing on the matter. He pointed out that the NEET UG counseling process has already commenced. He argued that if a decision is not reached in time, it could adversely affect the students' admissions. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohan agreed to list the matter for hearing after listening to the arguments of the parties involved.

Similar issues have arisen in the past

This matter has surfaced at a time when several legal disputes regarding NEET-UG 2026 are already underway. Recently, a candidate filed a petition in the Bombay High Court alleging a discrepancy between their expected and declared marks. Meanwhile, a student in the Delhi High Court claimed that their NEET score on the NTA portal had been altered multiple times. It is worth noting that the NEET-UG 2026 exam was originally held on May 3 but was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak; subsequently, the NTA conducted a re-examination on June 21, 2026. Now, a new petition regarding irregularities in OMR marksheets has once again brought the controversies surrounding NEET-UG into the spotlight.
