At 37, I am unmarried, financially secure, and established in my career. As a director at a multinational corporation, I own a home in the city as well as several investment properties in other provinces. From the outside, many assume I have everything anyone could ask for except a husband and children.
Over the years, I have dated and met men who expressed interest in getting to know me, but none of those relationships lasted. Perhaps I have been too selective, or perhaps the right person simply hasn’t come along. As time passes, opportunities to build a meaningful relationship seem increasingly rare. Most of my peers are now married and raising children, while I still return to an empty home every evening.
I have always loved children and envisioned becoming a mother. Whenever I play with my friends’ kids or my nieces and nephews, I am overcome by a deep sense of longing. I want to get married, and I want my child to grow up in a loving home with both parents. But I also know that I shouldn’t rush into marrying the wrong person simply because I’m running out of time.
Recently, however, the ticking of my biological clock has become harder to ignore. I worry that if I keep waiting for the ideal partner, the chance to have a child naturally will slip away. While my family remains completely supportive and respects whatever choice I make, the burden of the decision ultimately lies with me.
Should I keep holding out for the right person to build a family with, or should I carve out a different path and pursue motherhood on my own before it is too late?
