New Delhi: Bihar politics was thrown into a tizzy on Tuesday when Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, held a press conference and leveled several serious allegations against the state government. He criticized the government led by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, raising issues such as law and order, the murder of a government official, and the Bankipur by-election. Tejashwi alleged that the government has failed to curb crime and that fair investigations are not being conducted in many cases.
During the press conference, Tejashwi Yadav prominently raised the issue of the murder of Dehri Executive Officer Vimal Kumar. He demanded that an FIR be filed against Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MLA Sonu Singh in this case. He alleged that the police and the government were colluding to protect the MLA. Tejashwi said that this was the second murder of a government official in the last 100 days in the state, which highlights the poor law and order situation.
Questions were also raised on the investigation process
The Leader of the Opposition said that the IG named the driver as the accused without even waiting for the forensic investigation and post-mortem report. He claimed that the deceased’s family had suspected the involvement of MLA Sonu Singh and others, but the police were not investigating in that direction. He also said that the family had accused the MLA of extortion. In such a situation, the police should have investigated every aspect, but they did not do so.
Claiming to be the role of more than one person
Tejashwi Yadav stated that the injury marks found on the deceased’s body indicate that more than one person may have been involved in the incident. He also alleged that the driver changed his statement several times, but the police based the entire story on just one statement. He questioned that if work pressure is considered the reason for the murder, it would be a very dangerous argument. Because a driver with too much work could even murder the Chief Minister. He also questioned the relationship between the IG and MLA Sonu Singh and demanded an impartial investigation.
A direct target on the Chief Minister
Tejashwi alleged that the Chief Minister has time to attend cultural events but not to meet the family of the deceased officer. He also said that the state is rife with corruption for the sake of desired postings. He also questioned the government’s working style, citing the Bharat Tiwari encounter and the Bunty Yadav case.
He also spoke on the results of the Bankipur by-election.
Reacting to the Bankipur by-election results, Tejashwi Yadav said his party respects the people’s decision. However, he claimed the result reflects public dissatisfaction with the government and the BJP. He said the BJP has suffered two election defeats in a short period of time since Samrat Chaudhary became Chief Minister. According to him, the government has been busy targeting the opposition, while failing to address public issues as expected.
