The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, strong thunderstorms, and lightning in several parts of North India, including 12 states. Strong winds of up to 60 to 70 kilometers per hour are expected in many areas. Landslides are expected in hilly states and waterlogging in the plains. Heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings for 12 states, including North India

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh on August 6. Strong winds of up to 60 to 70 kilometers per hour are expected in many areas.

These areas are expected to be most affected.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Seemanchal region of Bihar, the mountainous districts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, parts of Punjab, and several districts of West Bengal and Jharkhand are at risk of heavy rain, accompanied by strong thunderstorms and lightning. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow the weather department’s advisories.

Delhi NCR
Delhi (August 6 – Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert): The capital is expected to remain cloudy throughout the day, with several spells of rain and thunderstorms. Strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are possible in some areas.

Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh (August 6 – Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert): Heavy rain is expected in several districts of western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Rain accompanied by strong winds is likely in several districts, including Saharanpur, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Kanpur, Lucknow, Amethi, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Bahraich, and Kushinagar.

Bihar
Bihar (August 6 – Heavy to very heavy rain alert): A torrential rain warning has been issued for several districts in Seemanchal and North Bihar. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in several districts, including Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Purnia, Katihar, Darbhanga, Madhubani, and Patna.

Jharkhand
Jharkhand (August 6 – Heavy rain likely): Moderate to heavy rain is likely in the northern and central districts of the state. There will also be a risk of strong winds and lightning in some areas.

Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand (August 6 – Heavy rain alert): Heavy rain is likely in Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Tehri, Pithoragarh, and surrounding mountainous areas. There is a risk of landslides and road disruptions.

Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh (August 6 – Heavy rain and landslide threat): A heavy rain alert has been issued for several districts, including Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Shimla, and Hamirpur. Special caution is advised when traveling on mountainous routes.

Rajasthan
Rajasthan (August 6 – Rain and strong winds alert): Several districts in eastern and northern Rajasthan are likely to experience thunderstorms. Winds of up to 50 to 60 kilometers per hour are expected in some areas.

Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh (August 6 – Rain and thunderstorm alert): An alert for heavy rain and strong winds has been issued for several districts in eastern and northern Madhya Pradesh. Waterlogging is possible in low-lying areas.
