FIFA has described as false and misleading any claim that Gianni Infantino assured Morocco it would host the 2030 World Cup final, adding that the decision will be made in due course following Wednesday’s meeting in Rabat.
As per The Times, Infantino offered Morocco the 2030 final in return for support to remain in office, and the report said he is eager to secure backing for another four-year term from 2027.
Infantino is facing considerable pressure after his unsuccessful plan to sell World Cup stakes to private investors, and he travelled to Morocco on Wednesday as part of efforts to calm the situation.
The 2030 tournament will be jointly hosted by Spain, Morocco and Portugal, with three matches scheduled to be played in South America.
Morocco wants the final to be held at Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, while Spain is pushing for the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid to be chosen.
Football associations in England, Wales and Serbia have withdrawn their support for Infantino, while former Portugal international Luis Figo called for his resignation on Wednesday.
