Serious Violation of Safety Rules

According to a report by the news agency AFP, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Safety regulations require a minimum distance of 1.5 miles and a 500-foot altitude difference between the Marine One helicopter and any passenger plane. But during this incident, the safe distance between the two planes suddenly decreased to less than 1 mile.

At the time, an Embraer E-170 aircraft operated by American Airlines subsidiary Envoy Air was taking off from Washington National Airport. The President’s Marine One helicopter was proceeding to Andrews Air Force Base. Upon arrival, President Trump was scheduled to board his special aircraft and travel to California, but the incident occurred en route.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has stated that it is investigating the incident that occurred on August 4th with utmost seriousness. It is worth noting that in January 2025, a passenger plane and a military Black Hawk helicopter collided near Washington National Airport. Approximately 67 people lost their lives in that horrific air crash.
