The Indian cricket team has suffered a major setback just before the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka. Indian captain and star batsman Shubman Gill injured his finger during a practice session. Due to this impact injury, he was unable to take the field in the three-day practice match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI, which began on Friday. In Gill’s absence, veteran KL Rahul has been appointed acting captain and led the team at the toss. The BCCI medical team is continuously monitoring his injury.
Injury During Practice Session
Gill injured his right ring finger during training on Thursday, a day before the start of the practice match. When KL Rahul took the field to captain in Gill’s place, it raised many questions among fans.
The BCCI shared the full details on social media. The board stated that due to Gill’s injury, he was rested for the first day of the warm-up match for safety reasons.
Sri Lanka XI won the toss and elected to bat.
In the practice match, which began at the historic Nondescripts Cricket Club ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka Cricket XI won the toss and elected to bat first. This three-day match, which began on August 7th, will provide both teams with ample opportunity to test their preparations ahead of the upcoming Test series.
