The family of Uttar Pradesh’s late gangster and former Samajwadi Party leader, Atiq Ahmed, is slowly being destroyed. On Wednesday, Atiq’s younger son, Aban, was traveling to Jhansi jail to visit his elder brother, but his car met with an accident on the way. Aban died in the accident near the Poonch police station area.
Aban’s car was so fast that it smashed into pieces after hitting a divider. Along with Aban, two other companions also died in the accident. Over the past few years, Atiq’s family has been steadily falling apart. Two of Atiq’s sons are currently in jail, while one has already been killed in a police encounter.
Since when did the condition of Atiq’s family deteriorate?
The family has been facing a continuous legal and personal crisis since the Umesh Pal murder case in February 2023 and the subsequent deaths of Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf, and son Asad Ahmed in April 2023. Now, the death of their youngest son, Aban Ahmed, in a road accident has brought another major tragedy to the family.
How did Atiq’s five sons fare?
1. Umar Ahmed (eldest son)
Omar Ahmed is currently lodged in Lucknow jail. He surrendered to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a case to extortion and kidnapping. He has been incarcerated since then.
2. Ali Ahmed (second son)
Ali Ahmed is accused of extortion and attempted murder and is currently lodged in Jhansi jail. It is reported that Aban was going to meet him.
3. Asad Ahmed (third son)
Following the Umesh Pal murder case, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) killed Asad Ahmed during an encounter in Jhansi in April 2023.
4. Ahzam Ahmed (fourth son)
As a minor at the time of the incidents, Ahzam Ahmed was placed in a child protection home. He was later released and placed under the care of his aunt.
5. Aban Ahmed (youngest son)
Aban Ahmed died in a road accident on August 6, 2026. He was also a minor at the time of the Umesh Pal murder case, and was sent to a child protection home. He was later released to his aunt in October 2023.
Since when is Atiq’s wife absconding?
Atiq Ahmed’s wife, Shaista Parveen, remains at large. She has been declared a fugitive since the Umesh Pal murder case, and the Uttar Pradesh police have announced a reward of 50,000 rupees for her arrest. She did not appear publicly even during the deaths of Atiq Ahmed and Asad Ahmed.
How was Atiq Ahmed murdered?
On April 15, 2023, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead while in police custody in Prayagraj. Police were taking them to Calvin Hospital for a medical examination. Outside the hospital premises, amid a large media presence, three attackers disguised as journalists entered the crowd and opened fire at the two men at close range. The entire incident was recorded on camera and became a topic of discussion across the country.
