The Indian team is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka this month for a two-Test series. The first match of the series will be played in Galle from August 15th, while the second Test will be played in Colombo (SSC) on August 23rd. Just before embarking on this tour, Team India has suffered a major setback.

According to a report in the English newspaper Times of India, star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the Sri Lanka tour. Bumrah is still experiencing discomfort in his left knee. Following initial evaluation at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE), Bumrah has been advised rest. The team management is unwilling to take any risks with him.

There was no relief even after taking the injection

According to the report, the BCCI medical team administered injections to Bumrah to alleviate his knee problem, but he still received no relief. It may take longer for him to fully recover. There were discussions about preparing Bumrah for the second Test, but the medical team decided against taking the risk.

A source told the newspaper, “It has happened before that players have been rushed back into cricket and ended up injured. You can’t take that risk again, especially in Bumrah’s case. Therefore, full recovery is the only target, and there’s still a lot of cricket left this year. There are also the Asian Games, the tour of New Zealand, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early next year.”

Bumrah was selected for the Sri Lanka tour subject to fitness clearance. Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aaqib Nabi could be included in the squad in his place.
