Maulana Sajid Rashidi, president of the All India Imam Association, has made a controversial statement regarding Kanwariyas. He claimed that most people go on the Kanwar Yatra only for intoxication and vandalism. They are not devotees of Shiva, but terrorists. BJP leader Madhavi Lata strongly condemned Rashidi’s statement, saying that those who create divisions in the name of religion are not Muslims, but suicide terrorists.

Speaking to IANS in Hyderabad, BJP leader Madhavi Lata said, “First of all, I don’t understand why they are roaming the streets like this. It seems they are keeping a close watch on the Kanwariyas passing by. I don’t want to debate this issue further, but I want to ask Sajid Rashidi one question: who were those terrorists who ate chicken and threw its bones in the Ganges?”

She said, “I wouldn’t call these people who create divisions in the name of religion Muslims. They aren’t Muslims at all. They are suicide terrorists. They speak against India.” They can’t see Hindu-Muslim unity. Such people should be thrown out of the country. Those who speak against Hindu festivals and Hindu devotees have no right to live in India. They are advised to leave India, otherwise they will face great difficulties in the future.

Regarding Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s statement regarding madrasas, Madhavi Lata said that perhaps he meant something like this. What the Quran actually teaches or what Islam shapes a child.

None of us have ever seen this in its true form. We have only heard hateful words from these people, such as ‘jihad’, turning people into terrorists, and putting rifles or AK-47s in their hands. Now imagine, a small child studies in a madrasa and is taught only anti-national things 24 hours a day. This belief is sown like a seed in that little soul and mind that the Hindu child living next door is not your brother, but your enemy.

He further said that he neither receives an English education nor has the ability to go out into the world and earn a living. Isn’t this injustice being done to him? What kind of thinking will such a child have? What kind of person will he become?

The Deputy CM of UP made this statement out of concern. This is not a matter of support. Knowing the truth, we should start English education in such madrasas. These children should be exposed to the world. The spirit of patriotism should be instilled in these young children of madrasas. ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Jana Gana Mana’ should also be sung in these madrasas. Saying ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ should also be taught in these madrasas.
