BMW India is set to launch the new X1 Long Wheelbase version on August 21, 2026 to strengthen its SUV portfolio. Already available in international markets, this car is the first long-wheelbase X1 to be launched in the Indian market. While the overall design of the car remains familiar, its increased length will be extremely beneficial for passenger comfort and more space.

Size and Dimensions

The new BMW X1 LWB measures 4,616 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width and 1,641 mm in height, while its wheelbase is 2,802 mm. Compared to the standard X1 currently sold in India, the new model is 116 mm longer and its wheelbase has been increased by 110 mm. To enhance passenger comfort, BMW has raised the rear seats by 27 mm and widened the rear headrests by 37 mm.

Performance and Engine

The boot space of this car has been increased to 540 liters and it rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. It has a 54-liter fuel tank. It is expected to have BMW’s 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 204 hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that provides power to the front-wheel drive only. This SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.6 seconds and has a top speed of around 230 kmph. The company may also introduce a diesel model of this car in the future.

Design and Features

The exterior of the car can see BMW’s new design language. The front has a large kidney grille, adaptive LED headlamps and LED DRLs. These include sculpted bumpers, satin aluminum roof rails, flush-style door handles, panoramic glass roof, shark-fin antenna, rear spoiler, and LED tail lamps.

Inside the cabin, the dashboard layout is similar to the regular X1. It features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch curved touchscreen infotainment system, which runs on BMW Operating System 9. It will get modern features like wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Harman Kardon premium audio system, wireless phone charging, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, digital key, powered tailgate and panoramic glass roof. Apart from this, it also includes voice assistant, OTA updates and automatic parking assistance.

Safety

In terms of safety, the car is expected to be given 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, dynamic stability control, traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. It will also get select ADAS features depending on the variant. When launched in the Indian market, this SUV will compete with vehicles like Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40.
