Moscow. The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has once again taken a devastating turn. In the past 24 hours, a total of eight civilians have been killed and more than 45 seriously injured in fierce missile and drone attacks from both sides. Meanwhile, military strategists from both countries have acknowledged that despite highly advanced air defense systems, it is now becoming nearly impossible to prevent these attacks.
Heavy Shelling in Ukraine
The Russian military launched combined missile and drone strikes targeting major Ukrainian cities and energy installations. These attacks killed six civilians and injured 40 others. In retaliation, Ukraine also launched drone strikes deep inside Russia. A drone strike in the Russian region of Bryansk killed two Russian civilians and injured five others. Not only this, both countries have also heavily bombed each other’s oil depots, refineries, logistics centers, and ships.
Major Reasons for Air Defense Failure
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concern on global platforms, stating that the lack of timely availability of anti-ballistic missiles and air defense equipment from Western countries is making it difficult to secure the skies. However, Russia is now extensively using decoy missiles and fake targets, along with real missiles, to confuse Ukraine’s radar and air defense systems.
Drones and Missiles Barrage
Currently, the situation is such that both sides are launching hundreds of suicide drones simultaneously, overwhelming the capabilities of any air defense system. According to sources, defense experts believe that if Ukraine does not immediately receive modern air defense systems and interceptor missiles, its energy infrastructure could be completely destroyed in the coming days. Meanwhile, increasing Ukrainian drone attacks within Russia pose a new security challenge for President Putin.
