UPSC CSE Data: While the number of candidates taking the UPSC Civil Services Main examination in Hindi and other regional languages ​​has increased, the number of candidates recommended for IAS and IPS posts through the Hindi and Maithili mediums has fluctuated over the past few years. In 2024, only five such candidates were recommended for IAS and IPS posts, whereas the figure had reached 27 in 2022. The Central Government provided this information in the Rajya Sabha.

How many candidates were recommended for IAS-IPS?

According to data released by the government in the Rajya Sabha, the number of candidates recommended for IAS and IPS posts from among those who took the CSE Main examination in Hindi or Maithili medium was 10 in 2021, 27 in 2022, 14 in 2023, and 4 in 2024. This means the figure was at its peak over the four-year period in 2022 with 27 candidates; subsequently, a continuous decline was recorded, bringing the number down to 5 in 2024.

Rise in candidates taking Main exam in Hindi and regional languages

The government also provided data on candidates who wrote the CSE Main examination in Hindi and other languages ​​included in the Eighth Schedule. A notable increase is visible in this regard for 2024. In 2021, 538 candidates took the Main examination in these languages; this figure rose to 587 in 2022 and 599 in 2023. In 2024, the figure reached 1,133. However, the number of candidates who succeeded in the main examination varied. According to the data, 26 candidates qualified for the main examination in 2019, 71 in 2022, 57 in 2023, and 50 in 2024.

Number of candidates from Bihar recommended for UPSC

Annual figures regarding candidates from Bihar recommended for the Civil Services Examination were also released in a reply given in the Rajya Sabha. According to this data, 54 candidates from Bihar were recommended in 2021. This figure rose to 63 in 2019 and 82 in 2023, while it dropped to 72 in 2024. Overall, government data indicates an increase in the number of candidates taking the UPSC main examination in Hindi and other regional languages; however, the number of candidates recommended for IAS and IPS posts through the Hindi-Maithili medium fell from 27 in 2022 to just 5 in 2024.
