Manchester United are among the clubs tracking AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, according to a recent report from Foot Mercato. The report states that the Red Devils are set to face competition from Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest in the race to land the Senegal international during this summer transfer window.

Camara enjoyed a decent campaign in Ligue 1, delivering a series of eye-catching performances in the middle of Monaco’s midfield. The 22-year-old featured in 24 league matches for the French side last season, scoring three goals and registering three assists along the way.

The Senegalese prospect is currently regarded as one of the brightest young midfielders in Ligue 1. For that reason, Manchester United could benefit from trying to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams this month.

Camara remains under contract at Monaco until the summer of 2029, and that is likely to make it difficult for the Mancunian club to secure his services on a bargain deal in this transfer window.

Camara is a capable ball-winner who can judge his tackles well to win possession back for his side inside his own half. He is also willing to clear his lines when required and can keep possession moving neatly with his passing from midfield.

The Senegalese midfielder also deserves praise for adding a few goals and assists to his game last season. Camara mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder, but he is equally capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or in the number 10 role if required. Even so, there are understandable doubts over whether he would be able to cope with the physical demands and fast pace of the Premier League if Manchester United succeed in signing him this summer.

Camara could add both quality and depth to Michael Carrick’s midfield options at Manchester United. He already appears to have the ability to compete for a regular first-team place at Old Trafford over the next few seasons.

At 22, Camara has a very promising future in front of him, provided he continues to develop year after year. With that in mind, Carrick should think seriously about making a move for him before this transfer window closes. However, Manchester United may need to show patience with his progress before they can see the very best of him in England.
