Automobile Desk: Everyone dreams of buying their favorite bike, but a hasty decision can lead to regrets later. Whenever you are preparing to take a new bike out of the showroom, do not take the decision just by looking at its attractive looks or price. A perfect and durable bike is one that meets your daily needs, budget and safety parameters.
Select model according to use
The bike should always be selected based on your primary need. If your main objective is daily commuting to office or commuting in city traffic, then a low CC commuter bike is a better option. On the contrary, if you are fond of long distance journeys (highway riding) or adventure trips, it would be wise to choose a cruiser or sports bike with more power.

Mathematics of on-road price and maintenance
Often people decide their budget just by looking at the 'ex-showroom' price, which is a wrong approach. The actual on-road price of the bike includes RTO registration, road tax, insurance and other charges. Apart from this, also estimate the future fuel expenses, periodic servicing and spare parts cost so that it does not become an extra burden on your pocket in the future.
Balance of engine capacity and mileage
Bikes of 100cc to 150cc capacity are considered most suitable for city use as they give better mileage. If you want more power and speed, you can go for an engine of 200cc or more capacity. In view of the ever increasing fuel prices, taking care of vehicle mileage is very important for long term savings.
Riding comfort and safety features
Instead of seeing the bike standing in the showroom, definitely take its test ride. Check the seat height, riding posture and handle grip during the test ride. In terms of safety, features like anti-lock braking system (ABS), disc brakes, tubeless tires and powerful LED headlamps are considered mandatory in modern bikes.
Service Network and Resale Value
Choose a bike of that brand whose authorized service center is easily available in your area and for which there is no shortage of spare parts. Additionally, popular brands in the Indian two-wheeler market command better resale values, resulting in a better price when exchanging an old bike in the future.
Finance, Insurance and Extended Warranty
If you are financing a bike, be sure to compare the interest rates, processing fees and EMI terms of different banks and finance companies. Also, opt for extended warranty and comprehensive insurance policies apart from the standard warranty provided by the company. Don't forget to take advantage of discounts and free accessories available during festivals or special occasions.
