India won 3 medals in the World Athletics Under-20 Championship 2026 held in America. These medals were given by Ashish Yadav, Basant Kumar Meghwal and Shahnawaz Khan. Ashish won silver in javelin throw, while Basant won silver in high jump. Shahnawaz won bronze in long jump. Medal was also expected from Pooja Singh in Women's High Jump but she finished seventh in the final.

 

National record holder Pooja could cross the height of only 1.84 meters. This is much less than his national record of 1.93 meters at the senior level. She failed to clear the height of 1.87 meters in three attempts. Australia's Isobel Lewison-Roe won the gold medal with 1.92 m, while Hungary's Liliana Bátori (1.90 m) and Spain's Aitana Alonso (1.90 m) won the silver and bronze medals respectively.

The Indian women's 4x400m relay team also disappointed and finished 9th and last in the final. He took a time of three minutes 45.28 seconds. The team included Bhumika Nehte, Tahura Khatoon, Tanu Choudhary and Thia Arumugam. The United States won the gold medal with a time of 3:29.15 seconds, while Australia (3:31.39 seconds) took silver and Great Britain (3:32.08 seconds) took bronze.

 

India thus concluded its campaign with three medals in the competition, which included two silver and one bronze. India finished 27th in the medal tally. India had won 3 medals each in this competition in 2021 and 2022, whereas in 2024 it could win only 1 medal.

 

America topped

Host America stood first in the tally by winning a total of 18 medals including 12 gold. Kenya (11 medals) stood second, while Italy (5 medals including 3 gold) stood third. Jamaica won 8 medals, which included only 2 gold. In such a situation, he is at fourth place in the medal tally, one place below Italy. Australia and Ethiopia jointly finished fifth.
