Ranchi, July 11. The impact of the Jharkhand bandh called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday in protest against the police action against students protesting against alleged irregularities in the appointment examinations of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) is being seen in many districts. BJP workers took to the streets since morning in many districts including Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Palamu, Giridih, Chatra and Simdega. At many places, protesters blocked roads and raised slogans against the government and protested against the police action against students. In view of the bandh, police force has been deployed at major intersections. The administration has increased surveillance to maintain law and order.
Road jam by burning tires in Ranchi
BJP workers blocked the road by burning tires at Harmu Chowk in the capital Ranchi. The protesters raised slogans against the state government and protested against the use of police force on students. Traffic was affected in many areas due to the bandh. The administration has deployed additional security forces at sensitive places.
Effect of bandh in Palamu also
The effect of the bandh was visible in Palamu district also since morning. BJP workers protested by blocking the road at Chhamuhan and Redma Chowk of Daltonganj. BJP's Palamu District President Amit Tiwari accused the state government of playing with the future of the youth and condemned the police action on the student movement.
Demonstration on NH-143 in Simdega
In Simdega also, BJP workers were seen on the streets since morning. Activists blocked National Highway-143 at many places including Biru. Due to this, the movement of vehicles on this route was affected. The protesters raised slogans against the police action on students. At the same time, there are reports of road blockage by BJP workers in Dhanwar of Giridih and Pratappur of Chatra. There have also been reports of demonstrations in support of the bandh from other districts of the state.
Closed from 8 am to 11 pm
BJP had announced Jharkhand bandh on Monday. According to the party, the bandh will last from 8 am to 11 pm. However, Kanwariyas traveling to health services and religious places including Deoghar have been exempted from the bandh. BJP has called this bandh after the clash between students and police during the assembly siege on Monday.
Demand to cancel JPSC-JSSC examinations
Thousands of students had marched towards the Assembly demanding cancellation of the controversial examinations of JPSC and JSSC, improvement in the recruitment process and a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities. In view of the demonstration, the police had set up several levels of barricades on the roads leading to the assembly. As the protesters advanced, police used water cannon and tear gas to stop them. After this lathicharge was also done. During this period, information about injuries to many students and policemen came to light. BJP has now called for Jharkhand bandh in protest against the police action.
