Manchester United are currently in front in the race to sign highly promising Leicester City teenager Louis Page, with Arsenal also keen on the midfielder.

The Red Devils had been expected to strengthen Michael Carrick’s first-team squad with elite additions this season. However, up to now, they have only brought Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans into midfield, while Karl Darlow joined on a free transfer to provide backup to first-choice goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

At the same time, INEOS remain firmly committed to signing some of the best young talents in the country. They have already secured 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson from Tottenham, and their next arrival could come from the East Midlands.

In recent days, Louis Page has become a genuine target for Manchester United. The 18-year-old midfielder progressed through Leicester’s system and broke into the first team last season.

As per the latest edition of The Athletic’s Transfer DealSheet, United are indeed leading the pursuit of the exciting teenager, with Arsenal now behind them in the race.

The report states that INEOS see the young Englishman in a similar category to Ayden Heaven, who immediately joined the senior squad after completing his move from Arsenal in January 2025.

However, unlike the defender, who arrived at United on a free transfer, Page is still under contract at Leicester until June 2029. Transfermarkt values him at €4 million, though the Foxes would almost certainly demand more than that.

Having already made 22 appearances for Leicester’s first team, a move back into academy football could be viewed as a backward step in Page’s developing career.

Even so, the Premier League and the Champions League are on an entirely different level compared with the English Championship, so that apparent ‘step back’ may be needed to protect the youngster, who could otherwise find it difficult to handle such a major jump in level.

Although Manchester United supporters would have every reason to be pleased if the club complete a deal for one of the country’s most exciting young midfielders, many fans would also be frustrated if he ends up being the final midfield signing of the window.

Despite Mason Mount’s capability to operate in a deeper position and the emergence of the Fletcher twins, the overwhelming majority of the fanbase has been calling on the club’s hierarchy to bring in another proven player in that area.
