Bengal. Bengal cricketer Abhishek Porel, who plays in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, has been arrested in a criminal case. A medical student has accused Abhishek of raping her on the pretext of marriage along with assault and criminal threats. According to the police, the cricketer was arrested from Emami City located in Dum Dum police station area.

Superintendent of Police confirmed the arrest

Hooghly Superintendent of Police Kunwar Bhushan Singh said that Porel was arrested on Monday. Earlier in June, a woman had lodged a complaint with the police. The complaint alleged that Porel had physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage and later assaulted her and made criminal threats.

According to the police, the case against Abhishek has been registered under sections 64(1)/66/69/74/75(2)/79/115(2)/117(2)/124(1)/127(2)/109/308(2)/351(2)/351(3)/316(2)/318(3)/61(2)/3(5) and It has been registered under sections 66E/72 of the IT Act.

Claims to be in a relationship for three years

According to the complaint, the woman claims that she and Abhishek Porel were in a relationship for about three years. However, differences started between the two last year. The woman alleged that after this Porel started maintaining distance from her. According to the woman, Porel had promised to marry her, but later refused to marry her. It has been alleged in the complaint that Porel had physical relations with her after promising her marriage. The woman has also accused the cricketer of assault and criminal threats.

Arrest after High Court instructions

In this case, the Calcutta High Court had directed the police to arrest the cricketer. After this the police took action and arrested Porel. According to police officials, investigation into the matter was started after receiving the complaint. At the same time, Abhishek Porel has previously denied the allegations leveled against him. At present the police is investigating the matter. The entire situation of the case will become clear only after the investigation of the allegations made by the woman and the legal process progresses.
