The Yogi government of the state is making continuous efforts to ensure adequate supply of drinking water to the common people. In this series, to further strengthen the supply of drinking water in the urban areas of Sonbhadra, the government has approved six projects to lifting raw water from dams and rivers and ensuring supply after treatment and construction of intake wells. Upon completion of these projects, the drinking water supply in Renukoot, Anpara, Obra, Pipri and other urban areas including Sonbhadra Nagar area will be strengthened and a permanent solution to the water crisis will be ensured.

District Magistrate Charchal Gaur said that the government has given consent regarding providing raw water from Rihand, Dhanraul and Obra dams and Renu river and construction of intake wells for drinking water projects. As per approval, 6.53 MLD from Rihand Dam for Pipri Nagar Panchayat Drinking Water Scheme, 21.47 MLD from Obra Dam for Obra Nagar Panchayat Drinking Water Scheme, 30 MLD from Rihand Dam for Anpara Nagar Panchayat Drinking Water Scheme, 2.77 MLD from Dhanraul Dam for Churk Nagar Panchayat Drinking Water Scheme, 26 MLD from Dhanraul Dam for Sonbhadra Municipal Council Drinking Water Scheme. And for Renukoot Nagar Panchayat drinking water scheme, it is proposed to provide 11 MLD raw water from Renu river.

The District Magistrate said that under the projects, construction of necessary structures like intake well, pipeline, pumping station etc. will be done by Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Urban). Told that compliance with the standards and safety provisions set before construction of the intake well will be ensured. Water will be taken from dams only from live storage and no water will be allowed to be taken more than the prescribed quantity. Also, the intake well will be constructed outside the flood and erosion area and the structures will be designed keeping in mind the erosion and safety standards of the river. He informed that the necessary drawings, designs and layout plans for the projects will be made available to the Irrigation and Water Resources Department. After the approval of Steemit, the construction work will be started after completing the tender process.

The District Magistrate said that it is the priority of the government to provide clean, adequate and uninterrupted drinking water to the citizens in the district. Completion of these projects under AMRUT 2.0 will bring comprehensive improvement in the drinking water system of urban areas and will prove to be an important step towards a permanent solution to the drinking water problem, especially in Renukoot and Anpara, Pipri, Churk, Obra areas.
