Tata Punch's magic works again in the sub-4 meter segment, Nexon slips to third position, overtaking Fronx

​Automobile Desk: The demand for sub-4 meter i.e. small cars in the Indian automobile market is continuously touching new heights. The sales figures for July 2026 have once again proved which vehicle remains the first choice of customers in the compact segment. Amidst the tough competition between the country's major car manufacturers like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra and Kia, Tata Punch has taken the first position by breaking all sales records.

According to the latest data, total sales of Tata Punch have been recorded at 21,313 units in July 2026. During the same period last year, this figure was only 10,785 units. That is, if seen on an annual basis, a bumper increase of 97.6 percent has been recorded in the sales of this car. With this stellar performance, Tata Punch alone has captured about 18.3 percent market share of this entire segment. Due to its strong looks and safety rating, this model continues to be the preferred choice of customers.

​On the other hand, the biggest change in the sales table has been seen in the second position. Maruti Suzuki's Fronx has performed tremendously and secured the second position by defeating Tata's popular car Nexon. Maruti Front has sold 19,473 units in the month of July, which is 51.3 percent more as compared to 12,872 units in July last year.

Tata Nexon had to be satisfied with third place this time. A total of 17,471 units of Nexon were sold, which is 36.2 percent more than last year. Despite this, the sales of Nexon remained a bit low in front of the fast pace of Ford and its share in this segment was reduced to about 15 percent.

Another popular car of Maruti Suzuki, Brezza was at fourth position in this list. However, Brezza sales have seen a decline of 14.3 percent compared to last year. This time the company managed to sell only 12,055 units, whereas last year this figure was 14,065 units. To maintain its strong hold in the market, Brezza has recently been updated with a new turbo-petrol engine, revised design and many modern features.

​Hyundai Venue remained at fifth position with sales of 11,095 units. Venue has achieved a strong growth of 37.8 percent as compared to 8,054 units in July last year. In the remaining list of top-10, vehicles like Mahindra This competition in the compact SUV market is expected to become even more interesting in the coming months.
