Arsenal are continuing their efforts to strengthen the squad, and a fresh offer has underlined that one club record could soon be broken.

A transfer mark that has stood at Arsenal for years now appears likely to fall after a new bid was submitted.

The Gunners have already explored the possibility of rewriting several records this summer, including an ambitious move for Vinicius Jr that would have eclipsed their highest-ever incoming transfer fee — the £105 million paid for Declan Rice in 2023 — and gone beyond the £350,000-a-week deal handed to Mesut Ozil in 2018.

However, it now appears that a different Arsenal transfer record — one that has remained intact for almost 10 years — is close to being surpassed.

As per journalist Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal have received a new offer from Galatasaray for Gabriel Martinelli, with the Turkish club keen to add elite-level quality to the Super Lig.

Arsenal's current record sale is around £35m, set in 2017 when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left the club to join Liverpool.

In recent seasons, the Gunners have successfully generated funds by selling homegrown players, with Joe Willock, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, Folarin Balogun and even Emiliano Martinez all departing for £20m or more in deals that represented pure profit.

Although Martinelli did not come through the Hale End academy, Arsenal would still make a significant profit on him, having originally signed him from Ituano for only £6m.

Plettenberg has stated that Galatasaray's offer is worth €45m, which is roughly £38m. However, FourFourTwo understands that the Premier League champions are aiming to hold out for around £50m for a player they regard as one of the more valuable members of the squad.

The Brazilian is still only 25 — having joined Arsenal as an 18-year-old — and while he scored just once in the Premier League last season, he managed 11 goals across all competitions. That included six in the Champions League, where he outscored several players Arsenal have been tracking, among them Bradley Barcola and Vinicius Jr.

The signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge is certain to increase competition on the left wing for the Gunners, who remain interested in adding a marquee player in that position.

Martinelli has been a major success story at Arsenal, delivering important goals across his seven years at the club. Those include a crucial equaliser against Manchester City in last season's title race, as well as goals against each of the other members of the so-called Big Six during his time in English football.

FourFourTwo understands that the Brazil international would rather continue playing at a higher level than move to Turkiye.

According to Transfermarkt, Martinelli is valued at €45m. Arsenal will face Coventry City when Premier League action resumes with the opening match of the 2026/27 season.
