Dehradun. After the incident of debris and water filling in the under construction tunnel of THDC located at Mayapur (Pipalkoti) in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Thursday evening, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the State Disaster Operation Center late night and took command of the relief and rescue operation. According to officials, out of the 22 people trapped in the tunnel, 16 have been rescued safely, while rescue operations are underway to rescue the remaining people. The Chief Minister directed the officials to conduct rescue operations on war footing and safely rescue all the people trapped in the tunnel.
According to officials, the incident took place in the under-construction tunnel of THDC at Mayapur (Pipalkoti) in Chamoli district, where debris and water filling was reported. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the Chief Minister reached the State Disaster Operation Center in Dehradun and started monitoring the relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister interacted with the rescued laborers through video conference to inquire about their well-being and boosted their morale. He assured the workers that the state government stands firmly with them and proper arrangements will be made for their treatment and rehabilitation.
The Chief Minister has maintained constant contact with senior officials of Chamoli district administration, SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, Army and other concerned agencies and has issued necessary guidelines while taking up-to-the-minute information about the progress of the operation.
He directed the officials that safe evacuation of every person trapped in the tunnel is the top priority and there should not be any laxity in the rescue operation.
The Chief Minister spoke to District Magistrate Chamoli Gaurav Kumar over phone and took detailed information about the relief and rescue operations and asked him to ensure all necessary arrangements immediately. He also instructed the Deputy CMO to provide better medical facilities to the injured.
Dhami said that if necessary, arrangements should be made to send seriously injured people to AIIMS or other higher medical institutions via helicopter.
He said that the state government is continuously monitoring the entire incident and until all the people trapped in the tunnel are safely evacuated, the relief and rescue operations will continue with full force and coordination.
District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar himself is present at the spot and monitoring the rescue operation. Teams of district administration, police, SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, Army and other concerned agencies are jointly engaged in the rescue operation. Necessary resources, machinery and medical facilities have also been made available at the spot by the administration.
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman and senior officials of the concerned departments were present in the meeting held at the State Disaster Operation Center.
