The police imposed traffic restrictions and announced diversions to regulate vehicular movement between 4 am and 10 am on Saturday, urging commuters to abide by the rules to ensure safe and smooth traffic movement.

Roads closed around Red Fort

The Delhi traffic police imposed restrictions around Red Fort, closing several roads for general traffic between 4 am to 10 am on August 15. Entry on these routes will be allowed to vehicles with valid labels only.

Here's a list of the roads closed in Delhi on Independence Day:

- Netaji Subhash Marg - Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk

- Lothian Road - GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail Chowk

- S P Mukherjee Marg - H C Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk

- Chandni Chowk Road - Fountain Chowk to Red Fort

- Nishad Raj Marg - Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg

- Esplanade Road and Link Road - to Netaji Subhash Marg

- Ring Road - Rajghat to ISBT Kashmere Gate

Roads to avoid on Independence Day

The traffic police further advised the commuters without valid parking labels to avoid the following roads: C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House - Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J L Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, Outer Ring Road via Salimgarh Bypass.

Commuters have been asked to avoid these roads from 4 am to 10 am as Independence Day celebrations will be underway.

Alternate routes to take

For traffic moving from north to south, the advisory suggested the following route: Aurobindo Marg to Safdarjung Road to Kamal Ataturk Marg to Kautilya Marg to S P Marg to 11 Murti to Mother Teresa Crescent to Park Street to Mandir Marg Mandir Marg to Panchkuian Road to Rani Jhansi Road.

For commuters travelling from east Delhi to west Delhi, the following route was advised: NH-24/NH-9 to Nizamuddin Khatta to Barapulla Road to Ring Road. Commuters can also use the Delhi-Noida Direct Flyway (DND) to reach the Barapulla Road or Ring Road.

Those travelling from Trans-Yamuna to North Delhi, were asked to take the following route: Pusta Road to GT Road to Yudhister Setu to ISBT Kashmere Gate.

Restrictions on commercial vehicles and buses

Goods vehicles will not be allowed entry between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from midnight on August 14 to 11 am on August 15. Further, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of interstate buses, which will not be permitted between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT during the same period of time.

Public Advisory

Issuing a general advisory, the traffic police urged the citizens to plan their journey in advance and leave early, avoid restricted roads and use alternate routes wherever possible.

The police advised people to remain updated through official Delhi Traffic Police advisories and real time updates. The advisory also shared official links and helpline numbers of Delhi Traffic Police.
