New Delhi. Australia's legendary fast bowler Mitchell Starc has added another golden chapter to his illustrious career in Test cricket. Starc created history by taking the wicket of Shadman Islam in the first Test being played against Bangladesh in Darwin. With this wicket, he completed 434 wickets in Test cricket and became the left-arm bowler with the highest wicket taker in Test history. Starc has left behind great Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath in this matter. Before the start of the match, both Starc and Herath had 433 Test wickets to their names.

Starc dismissed Shadman Islam on his own ball in the ninth over of Bangladesh's first innings. Nathan Lyon caught him and with this wicket a big record was registered in Starc's name. 36-year-old Starc is now the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket. He has 434 wickets to his name whereas Rangana Herath had taken 433 wickets in his Test career.

This achievement of Starc is also special because after reaching the figure of 434 wickets, he also equaled the great Indian captain and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev played 131 Test matches between 1978 and 1994 and took 434 wickets. Starc has achieved this figure in his 106th Test match. In this way, Starc and Kapil Dev are now jointly at 11th place in the list of bowlers taking most wickets in Test cricket.

Talking about left-arm bowlers, Starc has reached the top of the list. After him, Rangana Herath is at second place with 433 wickets. Pakistan's great fast bowler Wasim Akram is in third place with 414 wickets. New Zealand's Daniel Vettori has taken 362 wickets while Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas has 355 wickets in his name. India's Ravindra Jadeja is also included in this special list with 348 Test wickets.

Now Starc is eyeing the top-10 list of bowlers who have taken the most wickets of all time in Test cricket. In this list, South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is at 10th place with 439 wickets. Starc currently has 434 wickets in his account. That means, to leave Steyn behind and make it to the top-10, Starc will have to take six more wickets. Seeing the way he is continuously taking wickets, this milestone also does not seem too far for him.

Starc made his international debut in October 2010. On the basis of his fast bowling swing and dangerous yorker, he made his place among the most influential fast bowlers in the world. His performance, especially in big tournaments, has been an important part of Australia's success. He was a part of the Australian teams that won the ODI World Cup in 2015 and 2023. He was also named Player of the Tournament for his excellent performance in the 2015 World Cup.

Starc is among the few cricketers who have won the title of ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup and World Test Championship. His record in ODI cricket is also excellent. He has taken 247 wickets in 130 One Day International matches at an average of 23.58. He retired from T20 International cricket in September 2025 but his brilliant journey in Test cricket still continues.

The wicket of Shadman Islam was not just another wicket for Starc but it became a landmark achievement in his long international career. After surpassing Rangana Herath to become the most successful bowler in Test cricket, he is now eyeing Dale Steyn's 439 wickets. If Starc takes six more wickets, his name will also be included in the top-10 bowlers of all time in Test cricket.
