Dating app Bumble has made a big change to one of its most popular features. The company has announced that women will no longer have to wait to start a chat after being matched. After this new update now anyone both male and female can start the first chat. Bumble created a distinct identity in their early days in 2014 with a similar distinct rule.

According to the rules, previously only women could initiate chats with opposite-sex partners. The aim was to give women more control over dating and protect them from unwanted messages. But now the company has changed this rule. The company says it has seen an increase in chat initiations during testing of the feature in Canada. Additionally, fewer matches expire and more chats are initiated on both sides than before. (Photo Courtesy: Pinterest)
Not only has Bumble changed the rules on who can message first, but the company has also increased the time limit for replying after a match. Now users will be given 72 hours to reply instead of 24 hours. Since the response time is only 24 hours, some matches disappear before the chat starts. The company has taken this decision with the aim of reducing the number of such matches.
Bumble founder and CEO Whitney Wolf Hurd says users want more flexibility, less pressure, and more opportunities to make real connections. The company has taken these decisions keeping in mind the demands of the users.

Dating apps are currently facing declining user interest and growing boredom with the traditional 'swipe-based' method. In such a situation, Bumble has decided to make this big change. Many companies, including Match Group, the parent company of Bumble and Tinder, are now adding new features and AI tools to increase user engagement. Everyone is paying attention to whether the number of users will increase due to this decision taken by the company.
