Ukraine on Sunday launched a massive airstrike with hundreds of drones over parts of Russia. At least six people were killed in the attack, according to Russian officials. It is being described as one of the largest airstrikes in Ukraine since the war began. Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had destroyed 822 drones overnight, 600 of which were flying towards the Russian capital.

After this large-scale attack, security was increased in many areas of Russia. Yuri Slusser, the governor of Russia’s southwestern Rostov region, said five people were killed in the attacks on three cities in the region. A Ukrainian drone fell on a private house in the Moscow region, killing an 83-year-old man.

Earlier on Saturday, Ukraine launched an attack targeting industrial facilities in Russia’s southwestern Samara region. The head of Samara, Ivan Noskov, said air defense forces had thwarted a “large-scale” missile attack, although the city’s industrial facilities were locally damaged. He said those injured in the attack were receiving medical attention, but did not give details.

Ukraine has intensified long-range airstrikes against Russian military industries and energy installations. Its aim is to cut off Moscow’s revenue for the war and make the Russian people feel the consequences of the attack. The war has now entered its fifth year. Zelensky said that Russia should recognize the need for peace. Zelensky said on social media that Ukrainian forces attacked the Progress Center in Samara. It operates under the Russian space agency Roscosmos and is involved in rocket technology and electronics manufacturing.

He said a Ukrainian-made Flamingo missile was used to target the facility. This place is about 900 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Zelensky also said that Russia’s Savaslika air base, located about 700 kilometers from the front line, was also targeted. Most of Ukraine’s attacks have a range of less than 200 kilometers, but its long-range attacks have increased significantly this year. It is noteworthy that earlier on August 10, Russia and Ukraine bombed each other overnight. Many people of both countries were killed and many injured in this.
