Juventus have stepped up their pursuit of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano "Dibu" Martinez, with the transfer now close to completion.
Juventus are working to solve what remains their biggest unresolved transfer issue this summer. Since the beginning of the transfer window, Luciano Spalletti has asked the club to sign a new goalkeeper, someone considered more dependable than Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin, including in possession and with the ball at his feet.
After weeks of checks, discussions, possible options and profiles being explored, with several of those routes ultimately going nowhere, the final part of the plan now appears to centre on Martinez. According to The Athletic, an agreement with Aston Villa is now very close.
Aston Villa are also just one step away from landing Zion Suzuki.
Since the close of the transfer window, the Argentine keeper has informed Aston Villa that he wants a new challenge and that he had already reached an agreement with Juventus some time ago.
In the last few hours, Villa have moved quickly after the Zion Suzuki transfer involving Parma and Paris Saint-Germain broke down, with no agreement reached over how he would be managed in the coming years, including the possibility of a loan move to Juventus. Villa have therefore submitted a new offer of 30 million plus 5 million in bonuses to the Emilian club, and that proposal is close to being accepted. That development has reopened Juventus' hopes of getting Dibu.
As for Juventus' move, Suzuki's expected arrival in Birmingham would clear the way for Martinez, and Aston Villa's original asking price of at least €15 million has come down in recent days. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, chief executive Giovanni Carnevali and sporting director Frederic Massara presented a new offer this morning worth €7 million fixed plus €3 million in bonuses, for a total package of €10 million. Aston Villa, however, are asking for €10 million guaranteed, without bonuses. The difference is minimal, there is already an agreement in place with the player, and the transfer could finally be completed, much to Spalletti's satisfaction.
