New Delhi: Actor Mukesh Khanna, famous for his role of 'Shaktimaan', is once again in the news for his statement. Expressing his opinion regarding the national anthem of India, he has said that 'Vande Mataram' should be made the national anthem instead of 'Jana Gana Mana'. He claimed that he has been raising this demand for the last several years and now wants an early decision on it.

In a conversation, Mukesh Khanna raised many questions regarding 'Jana Gana Mana'. He said that he does not find some words of this song to be connected with the spirit of the country. He expressed his objection by mentioning words like 'Bhagyavidhaata', 'Punjab' and 'Sindh'.

The actor claimed that 'Jana Gana Mana' was to the then British rule and the historical context should also be discussed regarding it. However, his claim may be controversial.

Told 'Vande Mataram' is to the spirit of the country

Mukesh Khanna described 'Vande Mataram' as closer to Indian spirit and culture. He said that he considers this song his own and it should be accepted as the national anthem.

He also said that he likes 'Vande Mataram' sung by great singer Lata Mangeshkar very much. According to the actor, he himself has been working on this song for a long time.

Mukesh Khanna told that he has prepared a recording of about seven minutes of 'Vande Mataram'. His wish is that this presentation should create a special identity among the people. He also said that the entire song of 'Vande Mataram' should get prominence and the parts which were earlier removed should also be included.
