- India's electric car exports grew more than 16-fold in the April-June quarter to Rs. 3,090 crore crossed.
- Strong demand from European countries and exports of 10,802 vehicles were the mainstay of this historic growth.
- Spain has the highest Rs. 1,226 crore while Britain has Rs. Importing Indian electric cars worth 659 crores grabbed the first two positions.
Due to the strong demand in the European market, the export of electric vehicles made in India has registered a huge growth. In the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27 (April to June 2026), India's electric car exports increased by a whopping 16 times to Rs. 3,090 crore has been reached. During the same period of the previous year, the export was only Rs. 186 crores.
According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Commerce, the importance of electric vehicles in India's overall automobile export sector is growing rapidly. India exported 10,802 electric cars between April and June 2026, compared to just 1,309 vehicles in the same quarter last year.
Europe becomes the largest buyer of Indian electric cars
European countries have become the largest market for electric cars manufactured in India. Spain buys the most, followed by the UK (Britain). Apart from this, countries like Germany, Norway, Denmark, Belgium and Netherlands have also imported Indian cars on a large scale.

Spain tops: Purchases from India Rs. 1,226 crore cars
Spain has become the largest consumer of Indian electric cars in the first quarter. India to Spain Rs. Exported 4,007 electric cars worth Rs 1,226 crore. This amounts to nearly 40 percent of India's total EV exports.
Historic rise in UK imports: straight from 1 to 2,646 vehicles
Britain from India Rs. Importing electric cars worth 659 crores has grabbed the second position. The UK imported just 1 car from India in the same quarter last year, which has now increased to 2,646 vehicles.
Increasing dominance in other European and global markets as well
Among other major countries in Europe, Germany spent Rs. 210 crores, Norway Rs. 177 crore and Denmark Rs. Purchased vehicles worth 176 crores. Also Belgium Rs. 108 crores and Netherlands Rs. Cars worth 100 crores were ordered.

Apart from Europe, the demand for Indian cars has increased in other continents as well. Japan spent Rs. 112 crore and Nepal Rs. Cars worth 68 crores were imported. Along with this, Indian EVs have also been exported to Brazil, Israel, Australia, Singapore and South Korea.
A renaissance for the Indian auto industry and the EV ecosystem
This huge growth in exports shows that India is emerging as a major hub for global EV manufacturing, not just meeting domestic demand. These increased exports will also give a boost to the manufacturing of batteries, electric motors and electronic spare parts in India.
The success achieved by Indian vehicles in the face of fierce competition and stringent safety regulations in the global market is considered to be very significant for the automobile sector.
