Star midfielder is set to complete a £65m move.

The Spaniard is preparing to return to his homeland after Manchester City and Barcelona agreed a fee worth £65million for the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.

“Let's go and win the Champions League and everything else.”

The midfielder also won the Golden Ball at this year’s World Cup, with Spain lifting the trophy after beating Argentina 1-0 in the final thanks to an extra-time strike from substitute Ferran Torres.

He now departs the Etihad Stadium after seven years, a spell in which he won four Premier League titles, scored the decisive goal in Manchester City’s first-ever Champions League triumph in 2023, and was part of the treble-winning team in that same year.

He also lifted two FA Cups and three League Cups during his time in the north west.

City have been busy trying to reinforce their midfield this summer, breaking the British transfer record to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest after the midfielder’s standout displays for England at the World Cup.

Enzo Maresca’s side are also in talks with Lille over a move for 18-year-old talent Ayyoub Bouaddi, who impressed both supporters and scouts this summer with his performances for Morocco in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

They also remain interested in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, but they missed the deadline the Blues had set for offers to be made.

Chelsea made it clear that any bid for Fernandez would have to meet their £120m valuation, with payment structures already communicated to interested clubs.

The west London club wanted all offers submitted by 5pm BST last Friday, but none arrived before the deadline passed.
