Pakistan out of Hockey World Cup, India made place in next round by defeating 5-3

The winning streak for India against Pakistan continues. India also defeated Pakistan in FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. On 19 August, the Pool D match was played between the two teams in Amstelveen, Netherlands. This match was very important for both India and Pakistan. The Indian team played brilliantly and defeated Pakistan 5-3. With this defeat, Pakistan's Hockey World Cup journey ended.

 

However, this victory was not easy for India. Pakistan gave a tough competition to the Indian team captained by Harmanpreet Singh and also put pressure on it on many occasions. In this match played at Wagner Stadium in Amstelveen, India defeated Pakistan and made it to the next round.

 

India's dominance in the first quarter

India adopted an aggressive approach from the beginning of the match. Captain Harmanpreet Singh converted the penalty corner in the fifth minute through a brilliant drag-flick. After this, in the 11th minute, Abhishek, showing excellent stick work, defeated Pakistan's defense and increased India's lead to 2-0. By the end of the first quarter, India had achieved 7 shots, 10 circle entries and four penalty corners. Pakistan appeared to be under pressure in the initial phase in front of the Indian attack.

Pakistan made a strong comeback

Pakistan improved its game in the second quarter. Harmanpreet scored the third goal for India in the 21st minute but after this Pakistan started making a comeback. Hannan Shahid scored on the rebound to make the score 3-1. A few minutes later, Abhishek scored his second goal with a brilliant run and gave India a 4-1 lead. Pakistan responded immediately and Sufiyan Khan converted a penalty corner to make the score 4–2.

 

Hardik's goal confirmed the victory

India's midfielder Vivek Sagar Prasad played a key role in controlling the game in the third quarter. Due to his excellent passing and transition, India got opportunities in attack. Meanwhile, India got a penalty stroke after Pakistan's foul. When Harmanpreet was out of the field, Hardik Singh took the responsibility and put the ball in the goal, increasing India's lead to 5-2. Pakistan did score another goal, but India maintained the lead till the last whistle.

 

With this win, India has reached the next round from Pool D. England defeated Wales 8–2 to take top position in the pool. Now India will face either Netherlands, Argentina or New Zealand in the next round.
