Barcelona have officially confirmed the squad number Rodri will wear in the 2026/27 season, with the club’s new summer signing set to take the No. 16 jersey.
Shirts carrying that number are already on sale in the club shop.
“Let’s go for the Champions League and everything that comes our way,” he had said after arriving in the city.
Notably, the No. 16 shirt is a familiar one for the 30-year-old, who has worn that number at different points in his career with Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and the Spain national team.
However, Rodri’s arrival has also led to a change for another key Barcelona player.
Fermin Lopez has moved on from the No. 16 shirt.
The No. 16 jersey had previously belonged to Fermin Lopez.
The La Masia midfielder was still wearing that number when Barcelona took on FC Basel last week, but after Ferran Torres’ departure, he has now been given the vacant No. 7 shirt.
As a result, Rodri has taken his preferred No. 16 jersey at his new club.
The move is significant because Barcelona’s squad numbers are expected to go through several changes before the start of the new season.
With new signings joining the squad and players potentially changing roles or leaving, the shirt-number situation remains open.
