Bangladesh has urged India to speed up business visa issuance and remove trade barriers to strengthen economic ties. Dhaka also sought a “guarantee clause” in the renewed Ganges Water Treaty, saying it wants safeguards for its water rights and may approach international forums if necessary.
Bangladesh has called for faster issuance of business visas for its nationals travelling to India and greater ease of doing business, while seeking a “guarantee clause” in the renewed Ganges Water Treaty and asserting its readiness to approach international forums to protect its water rights.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said Bangladesh wanted businesses and private sectors of the two countries to “communicate more frequently”, Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported on Wednesday.
“Business visas for Bangladeshis should be issued more quickly so that businesspeople can travel to India more frequently,” she said at a reception hosted by the Indian High Commission for leading Bangladeshi business leaders and a delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Tuesday.
