MLAs will get these big facilities

MLAs will be given one government vehicle each to facilitate public service work in their constituency. The government will provide a special allowance of Rs 75,000 every month for the driver, fuel and maintenance expenses of the vehicles.

Additional government assistance of Rs 25,000 will be provided to hire a secretary to handle government work. The health insurance cover of elected representatives has been directly increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.

Justifying this expenditure in the Assembly, CM Vijay said, MLAs have to constantly visit their constituencies to solve the problems of the public. Many MLAs are from common backgrounds and have been elected for the first time. This decision is necessary to ensure transparent and corruption-free governance.

The decision was taken after VCK MLA Jothimani demanded logistics support. School Education Minister Raj Mohan and Congress MLA Thargai Cuthbert also praised the move, saying it would also create new jobs for drivers and secretaries.

DMK raised questions

On the other hand, the main opposition party DMK has strongly criticized this decision of the Vijay government. DMK spokesperson A Saravanan termed it as wasteful expenditure and said buying new cars and paying huge allowances to all 234 MLAs would put unnecessary financial burden on the state exchequer.
