The pace of bank loans increased in the first quarter, which sectors took the most loans?

Amid the boom in the Indian economy, there has been an increase in the pace of taking loans from banks in the first quarter of the current financial year from April to June. According to the credit growth report of SBI Research, the research wing of State Bank of India, the total bank loan in the country has increased by Rs 5,67,000 crore in this three-month period.

 

The biggest share in this increase is from corporate loans of big companies and personal loans of the general public, which together have taken about 63 percent of the total new loans. The report also states that the industry and personal loan segments are the mainstays of credit growth in the banking sector, which is getting full support from business and domestic demand.

 

How much loan did the companies take?

There has been an increase of Rs 1,87,000 crore in loans received by companies in this quarter. Almost half of this loan has come from only 4 big sectors. In this, the work of petroleum, coal products and nuclear fuels was at the forefront, which got the maximum additional loan of about Rs 25,500 crore.

 

After this, engineering work got Rs 24,900 crore, infrastructure i.e. power and infrastructure work got a loan of Rs 21,700 crore and chemical manufacturing business got an additional loan of Rs 20,800 crore. Apart from these 4 big works, bank loans have also increased in the sectors of food processing, basic metals, transport equipment, construction and electronics. If compared with last year, the growth of loans in this sector of companies has been 19.2 percent.

 

Gold loan is at the forefront among personal loans.

There has been an increase of 15.8 percent in personal loans of common people as compared to last year. The largest share in this personal loan is gold loan. According to the report, about 42 percent of the total increase in personal loans i.e. Rs 74,200 crore has come only from loans taken against mortgaging of gold jewellery.
