Even though people are using UPI (Unified Payments Interface) for digital payments for daily needs, people are also using cash in good numbers. But, the people using cash have been shocked by the country's largest bank, State Bank of India (SBI).
Actually, State Bank has limited free cash withdrawal from ATM from October 1, 2026. If you have a Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account, you will get only four free withdrawals every month. But, after withdrawing money from ATM four times, people will have to pay Rs 15 plus GST on every withdrawal from the fifth time onwards.
Withdrawal of money from ATM will be expensive
This means that now it will be expensive for SBI customers to withdraw money from ATM. However, digital transactions like UPI, NEFT and RTGS are different from this. There is no charge on this.
Not applicable to all account holders
State Bank has informed the account holders that these changes will not be applicable to all account holders, but service charge will be applicable only for Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account. If you also have this account, then you can make free withdrawals only 4 times in a month from the bank branch. For withdrawals more than this, you will have to pay charges to the bank.
What was the rule before this?
According to the State Bank website, earlier also four withdrawals were free in a month, but in this, SBI ATM, ATM of other banks, withdrawal from branch, micro ATM etc. were included. Only digital transaction modes like UPI, NEFT, RTGS, IMPS were left out. Under the new change, now only the first transaction of the month has been made free for withdrawal through branch channel.
