After an offseason without major moves and marked by several rejections from the top free agents, the atmosphere around the Golden State Warriors heading into the 2026-27 season could have been bleak. But the usual Stephen Curry was there to sweep away the pessimism.
At 38 and on the verge of his 18th NBA season, the Warriors legend expressed great excitement for the new season. Speaking on the sidelines of a Valkyries game (San Francisco’s WNBA team), Curry chose to look at the glass half full, emphasizing the importance of getting the roster healthy:
A complicated summer: injuries and a stalled market
The numbers from last season show that Curry (who is also approaching the time for his extension) is still putting up superstar numbers: 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. However, the Warriors finished the season with a disappointing 37-45 record and were eliminated in the Play-In, heavily impacted by Steph missing 39 games because of a right knee injury and injuries to Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody.
After missing out on their main free-agent targets, the front office opted for continuity, bringing back Draymond Green, Kristaps PorzingisAl Horford and Gary Payton II.
Meanwhile, free agent Dalen Terry being spotted courtside alongside Curry and Payton fueled rumors of a potential addition of the young shooting guard to add depth to the team’s rotations.
On paper, the Golden State Warriors are far from favorites to win the championship, but with a fully healthy Curry and continued internal development, the Bay Area franchise can aim to get into the playoff picture.
