Mumbai, August 21, 2026: FM Jaiveer Mahendru emerged the sole leader of the Asian Junior Open Classical Chess Championship after a stunning victory over International Master Aaditya Dhingra in the fourth round at the ITC Maratha Sheraton, Mumbai.
Jaiveer, rated 2326, upset the higher-rated Dhingra (2403) to maintain a perfect score of 4/4. He is now half a point ahead of a strong group of four players comprising top seed IM Mayank Chakraborty of India, IM Artem Pingin of Russia, FM Amanmuhammet Hommadov of Turkmenistan and FM Sharnarthi Viresh of India, who are all on 3.5/4.
Jaiveer Takes Sole Lead
Guru Prakash, rated 2113, continued his dream run in the championship, punching above his weight by holding FM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (2363) to a draw.
