Tottenham are stepping up efforts to pull off an ambitious double transfer for Manchester City attackers Omar Marmoush and Savinho, with Roberto De Zerbi looking to strengthen his forward line. The Egypt international has reportedly approved the move, as he wants a more central role away from the shadow of Erling Haaland.
Spurs are actively trying to complete a stunning double deal for City forwards Marmoush and Savinho. Although Tottenham have spent heavily in several areas of their squad this summer, they have not yet invested in any new forwards.
That is now expected to change quickly. Under De Zerbi, the north London side are keen to land both Marmoush and Savinho as part of a major attacking overhaul before the new season. According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, talks between Tottenham and Manchester City over the proposed double signing are now progressing officially.
While agreeing a transfer fee with City remains vital, persuading the players to join is just as important. In a boost for Spurs, Egypt forward Marmoush has reportedly given his full approval to the potential move, according to TEAMtalk.
Although a formal agreement on personal terms has not yet been fully completed, that is not expected to become a problem. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Brazilian winger Savinho had already agreed personal terms with Tottenham earlier this summer.
One of the main reasons behind Marmoush's desire to join Spurs is his positional preference. The 27-year-old attacker is eager to play through the middle again, a role in which he previously flourished during his spell with former club Eintracht Frankfurt.
Staying at the Etihad Stadium would make that ambition almost impossible. Because of Haaland's dominant presence, Marmoush is unlikely ever to become City's regular starting centre-forward. De Zerbi, meanwhile, has big plans for his incoming signings. The manager wants to field a completely new front three by the time the transfer window closes, with Cody Gakpo also firmly among the club's targets.
While everyone involved appears interested in getting the deals done, there is still a small financial obstacle to overcome. Reports indicate that City want a combined £150 million for the sale of the two talented attackers.
At present, Spurs are £10m below City's valuation and appear unwilling to go beyond their £140m ceiling. It remains to be seen whether that difference in valuation will prove to be only a small obstacle or a significant barrier to De Zerbi's attacking rebuild.
