On the day the stall closed on Aug. 16, the owner A.K. Kalanidi posted a photo of himself at the shop on Facebook, saying it had been taken by his “last customer,” AsiaOne reported.
“This marks the end of my business for the last 53 years. Happy and grateful I was supported by all my customers all these while. Thanks,” he wrote.
The 75-year-old began his career in the spice trade in 1973, when he took over his late father’s stall at a market in Geylang.
He initially had no intention of taking over the family business but changed his mind after his father died.

A decade later, in 1983, he moved the business to Tampines Round Market and Food Centre, where it remained until its final day.
Kalanidi Curry Spices has become a popular destination over the years, with long queues often forming at the stall.
