In Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh, the indefinite strike of farmers dissatisfied with the compensation for the land acquired for the construction of Badnawar-Timarwani four lane continued in the Jhabua Collectorate premises on Friday.

A large number of farmers and women are involved in the movement that started on Thursday. The farmers spent the night in the Collectorate premises and prepared food collectively and ate it. Farmers say that their agitation will continue until they get written assurance on the issue of compensation.

Arrangements were made for a collective meal by the farmers at the protest site. About 30 kg of flour and 7 kg of rice were prepared on Thursday night. On Friday morning, about 10 liters of milk tea and breakfast of poha was prepared.

The farmers said that they will remain at the protest site like this until their demands are met. The main demand of the farmers is to be given four times the market value of the land acquired for four lanes as compensation as per rules.

On Thursday, Meghnagar SDM Avandhati Pradhan and NHAI Project Director Devendra Chapdekar reached the protest site and discussed with the farmers. The officials had advised the farmers to present their objections and views through arbitration application.

Consensus reached on path, drainage and road height
Under the leadership of Farmers Union District Minister Vardichand Patidar, the delegation met Collector Dr. Yogesh Tukaram Bharsat and presented their problems.

In the discussion, consensus was reached regarding the roads reaching the fields, drainage system and height of four lanes, but no consensus could be reached between the farmers and the administration on the issue of compensation.

The farmers have made it clear that until written assurance is received regarding compensation, their indefinite strike will continue in the Collectorate premises.
