2 arrested for supplying steroids to gym-goers in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police arrested two individuals on Friday, August 21, for allegedly selling Mephentermine Sulphate injections without a prescription to gym-goers and promising them muscle enhancement for bodybuilding. The officials seized Rs 45,000 worth of steroids from the accused and apprehended two alleged users as well.

Accused Gowtham Singh (24), a resident of Mangalhat, was the alleged main supplier, while 19-year-old student R Abhilash from Goshamahal served as the secondary supplier. They got acquainted at the gym, where Abhilash allegedly told Singh he used Mephentermine Sulphate injections for muscle growth.

Singh started taking the injections and soon began selling them to earn money, procuring the Mephentermine Sulphate illegally from an unknown supplier in Meerut. Orders were allegedly placed via WhatsApp and shipped through courier at Rs 160 per vial.

With Abhilash’s assistance, Singh allegedly supplied and sold the injections to customers in the Goshamahal area at Rs 900 per vial, earning huge unlawful profits.

Friends from gym ran the racket

The duo was arrested while transporting 50 vials of steroid injections on a bike, intended for sale to Aundekar and Daksh Upadhyay. The accused were allegedly planning to sell the steroids near the Hyderabad Plastic Company Godown in Begum Bazaar.

Acting on a tip-off, the Commissioner’s Task Force, along with Goshamahal Police, apprehended them and seized the injections. The seized items included 50 vials of insulin injections and Mephentermine Sulphate Injections, five empty vials, and the accused’s mobile phones and bike, worth Rs 1.85 lakh. The police then apprehended two of their alleged buyers as well.

A case has been registered under sections 318(4) (cheating), 125 (act endangering life) and 3(5) (joint liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused were also booked under relevant sections of the Drug and Cosmetics Act at Goshamahal police station.
