Why are banks closed on August 22?

As per RBI regulations, all public and private sector banks in the country observe an official holiday on the second and fourth Saturday of every month, while they remain open as usual on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays. Under this rule, since August 22 falls on the fourth Saturday of the month, banking operations will be completely suspended at all bank branches across the country.
