New Delhi . The pairing of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi has given many memorable films to Bollywood and that is why after a long time, when both of them came together with the film Bantwara 1947, the expectations of the audience had also increased a lot. Sunny Deol has been seen in a different character for the first time in the film. He plays the role of Sikandar Mirza, a Muslim man who stands up against fundamentalism during the course of the story. However, the film did not get the level of success at the box office that was expected. After this, the question also began to arise whether presenting Sunny Deol in a Muslim role was detrimental to the audience appeal of the film. Now director Rajkumar Santoshi has openly expressed his views on this question.

According to Rajkumar Santoshi, this aspect was definitely considered while casting the film, but the decision to cast Sunny Deol in the Muslim role was not taken under any compulsion but with complete creative thinking. He believed that Sunny could play this role very effectively. The director said that the character of Sikandar Mirza is not limited to the identity of a particular religion but he brings forward an important idea and conflict in the story. The character opposes fundamentalism and is a person who goes to fight in enemy territory. This was the reason why Santoshi wanted to make different use of Sunny Deol's image and his acting ability in this role.

The director also revealed that his old friendship and professional relationship with Sunny Deol made the casting easier. The duo has previously entertained the audience in successful films like Ghayal Damini and Ghatak. Santoshi says that Sunny is a very impressive actor and he has the ability to make any character believable in his style. Therefore, choosing him for the role of Sikandar Mirza was a conscious decision.

Rajkumar Santoshi also revealed that he and Sunny Deol had been planning to work together again for a long time. Even in 2008, both of them had planned to work together on a film. Santoshi told that when she narrated her story to Sunny at that time, the actor also liked the subject. The director wanted to make the project a large-scale mainstream film and believed that the story could reach a larger audience through Sunny Deol's popularity. The effect of this thinking was later visible in the casting of Partition 1947 also.

The story of the film is set in the background of the partition period and an attempt has been made to bring forward the social and human conflicts of that time. Sunny Deol's character presents a different perspective in this environment. However, the performance of the film in theaters was not as expected. According to the report, the film has made a business of around Rs 33.60 crore in India and around Rs 47.62 crore worldwide. After this, the discussion regarding the film's earnings and its casting intensified.

In such a situation, despite the film's earnings being low, the director seems confident about his casting decision.
