Jantar Mantar Protest Caste Reservation: The historic Jantar-Mantar of Delhi has once again seen a flurry of protests. This time thousands of non-reserved category and upper caste people have come together to protest against the UGC’s equality rules and caste-based reservation system. Organized under the auspices of the “Reservation Reform Movement”, several organizations like “General Sena”, “Chanakya Sena” and “Karni Sena” of Rajasthan enthusiastically participated in the demonstration.
Protest against SC/ST Act with recitation of Hanuman Chalisa
The event, held amid confusion over police permission, had protesters chanting Hanuman Chalisa and echoing the premises with religious slogans. During the demonstration, some leaders strongly demanded repeal of the SC/ST Act. He alleged that the law was being misused against innocent people, hence the government should take strict measures to stop it.
Delhi Police and RAF personnel deployed
The protestors claimed that thousands of people participated in the movement. In terms of security, the Delhi Police had erected barricades around the Jantar-Mantar. A convoy of Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force (RAF) and ITBP personnel were deployed to prevent the situation from escalating. Videos of this crowd were shared on social media and it was claimed that people had spontaneously arrived here from all corners of the country.
“We didn’t crowdfund or crowdfund”
Regarding the protest, the X (Twitter) handle of “Anamat Hatao Andolan” clarified that the movement does not receive any funding from any political party or foreign organization. The crowd gathered at Jantar-Mantar has not been called by paying money, but people have come of their own free will with the intention of securing the future of the country and bringing justice to the governance system.
Demand for white paper from Govt
The agitators demanded that the government should issue an immediate ‘white paper’ on the current structure of reservations. Apart from this, he also expressed displeasure over the decision not to implement ‘quota within quota’ and ‘creamy layer’ system. The protesters alleged that the government was bowing to the pressure of some selfish leaders, who were doing politics only for the interests of their caste.
