While the tournament is very condensed but at the same highly competitive, offering India's fringe cricketers the chance to press their case to make it to the Test team. Notably, previous champions Central Zone and runners-up South Zone have directly progressed to the semi-finals. Hence, the remaining four zones will compete tooth and nail for a place in the top four.

The tournament starts with a couple of quarter finals, with North Zone facing the West Zone as the two sides will play at the BCCI COE Ground 1 in Bengaluru.

West Zone have a collection of players with high pedigree, led by the captain himself Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will be joined by Shams Mulani, Prithvi Shaw, Musheer Khan, Urvil Patel and Shivalik Sharma. The bowling contingent looks equally strong with the presence of Mukesh Choudhary, Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande and Tanush Kotian.

North Zone also have some highly skilled and crafty batters, including Ayush Badoni, Sanat Sangwan, Yash Dhull, Abdul Samad and Nishant Sandhu. Captained by keeper-batter Kanhaiya Wadhawan, the side has some clever bowlers too like Arshdeep Singh, Yudhvir Singh and Sunil Kumar. While West Zone look like a superior team on paper, North Zone have some players capable of throwing punches on the opposition and unsettling them.
