A London based tech company Nothing Next week will introduce its next-generation firmware version Nothing OS 5.0. It will be based on the new OS version Android 17, which was introduced earlier this year. Currently, the stable version of Android 17 is only available on select Google Pixel devices (Pixel 6 and above models). Several tech brands like Motorola, Oppo and Vivo have announced their beta programs. Nothing is also likely to announce the Nothing OS 5.0 beta program on August 25.

Nothing OS 5.0 will be launched on August 25

On Thursday, in a post on social media platform X, the Karl Pei-led smartphone maker announced that Nothing OS 0.5 will be introduced on August 25 at 11 am BST (3:30 pm IST). The shared video teaser did not share any information about the upcoming updates, but the teaser definitely gives some hints about the design change. It includes new icons and widgets. The company is likely to announce its Nothing OS 5.0 beta program on August 25. The first public beta version can be rolled out by the end of this year. No information has been shared yet about when the stable version will be released. But the update is likely to be released first for the recently launched Nothing 4A series and the flagship phone 3.

What will be special in the new update?

Google started rolling out the first stable version of the Android 17 update for the Pixel tablet in June along with the Pixel 6 and subsequent smartphones. Only Pixel phones that have received the Android 17 update are compatible with it. As already mentioned, Motorola has already announced their Android 17 beta program. Similarly, Vivo has announced 'OriginOS 7' beta program based on Android 17 and Oppo has introduced 'ColorOS 17' beta program based on Android 17.

Talking about features, Android 17 has added a new multitasking feature called 'Bubbles', with the help of which, long-pressing (long-press) on an app's icon can turn the app into a 'floating window'. Additionally, a new feature called 'Screen Reactions' has been introduced, which along with screen recording also records user reactions through the front camera. The camera video appears in a small frame on the screen recording. 'Nothing OS 5.0' is also expected to include these features.
